The CT5 can tow 1000 lbs but it is not designed as a tow vehicle.
How Much Can the CT5 Tow?
The standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) model of the Cadillac CT5 reportedly has a maximum towing capacity of 1000 lbs. That is, if you have the regular model, you can tow a Small Open Utility trailer with an empty weight of 700 lbs. It is also possible to tow a small 8 KW towable generator with the vehicle.
Cadillac CT5 Engine
The Cadillac CT5 has two engine options, however for a premium category; you can get a CT5 Blackwing that features a V8 engine
-
2.0 L LSY I4: This is the engine included in the standard RWD model. Running on premium Gasoline, this option gives an average fuel economy of 26 mpg. It is a turbocharged four-cylinder piston turbocharged engine, which can produce an estimated 237 hp @ 5000 rpm and 295 lb-ft torque @ 1500-4000 rpm.
-
3.0 L LGX V6: This is the engine you can get in the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Sport trim for the CT5. It is also available in other trims at a premium category. -
6.2 L LT4 V8: This engine is exclusively available in the CT5 Blackwing, which is focused heavily on performance. The LT4 is a supercharged eight-cylinder engine that is able to produce 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque @ 5400 rpm.
Should you tow with the CT5?
While it is possible to tow up to 1000 lbs with the Cadillac CT5, it is not recommended. As the CT5 doesn’t have any towing aids on its stock model, towing can be done by adding a third-party towing kit, it is not recommended because the CT5 was not built with towing in mind. You would be able to get away with occasional towing with the CT5, but repeated towing with the CT5 will inflict constant wear and tear on the transmission and eventually lead to transmission loss because pulling heavy loads is very taxing on the transmission. Another reason why towing on the CT5 should be avoided is that the vehicle’s chassis, like the engine, is not built to withstand the stresses of constant towing, which is likely to result in irreversible damage to the vehicle’s frame.
The Cadillac CT5 is a mid-size luxury sedan manufactured by General Motors. It was revealed at the 2019 New York Auto Show. The CT5 is short for Cadillac Touring 5. The CT5 has a fastback body style, which is inspired by Cadillac fastback models from the late 40s. The Cadillac CT5 features an optional Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system.
The Cadillac CT5 will tow loads weighing up to 1000 pounds. However, just because the vehicle is capable of towing up to does not mean it is recommended. Towing with the CT5 should be done sparingly.
Towing with the CT5 should be considered carefully because it was not engineered with towing in mind. Frequent towing may indeed be harmful to the transmission and the vehicle’s frame over time.
