Are there bears in Yosemite?


After a long and tiring week, all you wish for is a nice and peaceful weekend.

There are approximately 300 to 600 American black bears within the boundaries of Yosemite National park. See one of these is a rare case because of the vast territory of the park. These bears are black in color and are normally defensive.

Seeing one can cause fear and excitement in people.

These bears will not attack you or interrupt your trip. But if you see one keep at least 50 yards distance.

The bears in Yosemite normally eat insects and fruits like termites, berries, acorns, etc. You cannot feed them anything from your meal. These are potentially harmless and defensive in nature. Most of them weigh 200-300 pounds.

All of these ways are in some way injurious to your health. The best way to spend your weekend is to go out to national parks or go on camping trips with your friends and family. This way you can rejoice and appreciate nature and also give time to your precious family.

Bear’s Safety Measures:

Animal Safety is very important. Yosemite security guards put this in their top priority list to protect them. Safety measures have been taken to ensure the protection of these pretty little animals. Bear sprays of any kind like pepper spray are strongly prohibited in Yosemite National park. The life of the animals in Yosemite is as costly as our own lives. We should not bully or harm these little fellas without any reason. If this is your first trip to Yosemite national park then make sure that you don’t bring bear sprays of any kind and bring bear-proof food containers. American black bears are the part of the national park and we should appreciate them as its beauty.


Hibernating Period:

American black bears also go in hibernation during winters. The major purpose of this is protection against those ice-cold winds. Bears do not eat, urinate or defecate during their hibernating periods. It mostly lasts for 2-3 months. It may start in early October. Hibernation is a period of long sleep for the organism. It has physiological importance and affects the body of the organism effectively. So it is better not to go into the caves and disturb the hibernating animals in October, which may prove fatal.
