Can a Buick Encore Tow?

Towing capacity is the maximum capacity of a vehicle it can tow when pulling a trailer determined by the vehicle manufacturer and considers the GVWR, GAWR, GTW, and more; in simple words, it is how heavy the trailer can be. To determine maximum towing capacity, compare the vehicle manufacturer’s weight ratings with your trailer’s gross weight. The trailer towing capacity for trailers is usually listed in the owner’s manual, on the driver-side door jamb, or in a trailer towing capacity guide on their website.

One of the essential elements that decide a vehicle’s maximum towing capacity is its engine power. All Buick Encore is equipped with a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that can produce up to 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. Maximum towing capacity should always be observed when there is a towing situation; exceeding the set towing capacity or towing more weight than your vehicle is entitled to be extremely dangerous. Be smart and know your vehicle’s limits.

Many small camper trailers weigh are under 1,000 pounds, meaning a multi-day road trip in your Buick Encore is possible. Manufacturers run the transmission pump on the engine side of the transmission. That means if you tow the vehicle, the oil pump is not moving oil within the clutches, and the result will be a dead transmission. You can select an aftermarket pump from a wide range of vehicle-specific lists and install it to allow towing to increase Buick Encore’s towing capacity.

The Buick Encore’s GX version is more extensive and has two engine choices that are slightly more powerful than the regular Encore, making it suitable for towing. The standard engine has 162 pound-feet of torque, a turbocharged 1.2-cylinder with 137 horsepower. In comparison, the second engine is a turbocharged 1.3 liter with up to 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Both the engines are constantly variable automatic transmission for front-wheel-drive styles, with all-wheel-drive models receiving a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The towing capacity of Buick Encore GX is usually carried out with the help of an optional tow hitch. A four-wire electrical harness is added that connects your trailer to the vehicle’s battery so that you can easily use the trailer’s running lights, turn signals, and brake lights. You can get a lot done inside the new Buick Encore, with a maximum payload of 1,018 lbs. It has a cargo capacity of 18.8 cubic feet and a maximum cargo capacity of 48.4 cubic feet. Its flexible interior provides a fold-flat front-passenger seat and folding second-row chairs.

The Encore is equipped with capability-enhancing features powered by a standard 138-hp 1.4L Turbo engine; the Encore serves up 148 lb.-ft of torque. Don’ts

  • Do not use the winter cover if towing a trailer; the vehicle may overheat if the radiator is covered while towing.
  • Use towing equipment that is designed specifically for that vehicle, e.g., Buick Encore.
  • Contact the dealer or trailering dealer for assistance with preparing the car to tow a trailer.
  • If the vehicle is not driven correctly, you can lose control when towing a trailer. For example, if the trailer is way too heavy or the trailer brakes are not working correctly for the load, the car may not stop as expected.
  • Ask your dealer for any advice and information about towing a trailer with the vehicle.
  • Before towing a trailer, follow all state and local laws and follow those that apply to the trailer towing; the requirements may vary from state to state.
  • As state laws may require the use of extended side-view mirrors so you should install extended side-view mirrors first and foremost, even if your visibility is limited or restricted while towing.
  • Don’t tow a trailer during the first 800 km of vehicle use to prevent any injury to the engine, axle, or other parts.
  • Performing the first oil change is recommended before experimenting with heavy towing.
  • Do not drive over 80 km/h while towing a vehicle, and do not make starts at full throttle. Do not top a maximum trailer tongue weight which is 45.36 kg (100 lb.). The trailer tongue weight backs to the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). GVW is the sum of your vehicle’s curb weight, passengers, cargo, equipment, and trailer tongue weight.

The Buick Encore towing capacity is limited as it has an optional accessory hitch for lightweight racks, though great for carrying some bikes. It has a standard six-speed automatic transmission and a front-wheel-drive system, while all-wheel drive is optional. These factors might not be helpful when there is a need to tow a heavy trailer. However, they’ll still work well if you need to transport heavy items or head out to the tracks, especially on rough terrains and slippery surfaces.

Buick Encore is a stylish compact SUV for many reasons, including an upscale design, a quiet cabin, and a long list of features to keep drivers and passengers comfortable and connected. However, if you need a vehicle with an exceptional towing capacity, the towing capacity of Buick Encore is probably going to disappoint you. This compact SUV does not have the towing ability, and trying to pull with it could seriously damage the vehicle and compromise the warranty.
