BMW M3 Towing Capacity – What Can it Handle?

If you are an adventure lover, you might be more interested to invest in a vehicle with enhanced towing ability. It is important to mention that the initial versions launched under the BMW M3 category were not able to tow anything. All models varying from the year 1994 to 1998 were rated with 0kg towing capacity. However, the ability to haul a trailer was first added to the 1999 model and it was capable enough to tow up to 1800kg of trailer weight.

The same capacity was further continued for the 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003 models; however, the 2004 version was again designed without any towing capacity. The manufacturers improved towing capacity of 2000kg with the 2005 model and the same range was continued up to 2009. The next three models for 2010 to 2012 were designed to haul 2100kg of trailer weight with ease. However, all the other models designed after that were limited to 2000kg capacity only.

Although the recent version of BMW M3 is also able to tow only 2000 kg of trailer weight; but people are more attracted to its advanced features. You can avail many standard and optional features to enhance the overall performance of the vehicle. Other than this, BMW M3 vehicles are also rated high for their safety and driver assistance features that include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring.

With the launch of BMW M3 models, the brand has shown a commitment to continue manual transmission for few more years, at least for the regular models. However, an eight-speed automatic is considered a mandatory feature for the powerful M3 Competition. Behind the polarized grille, this model has a familiar twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six that leads to the 473 to 503 horsepower capacity. The manufacturers preferred only an eight-speed automatic finish for these vehicles; however, rear-wheel drive is a standard feature.

All M3 models come with adaptive dampers along with an adjustable brake-pedal feel. As per EPA estimates, the latest version of the BMW M3 can achieve up to 23 mpg on highways and 16 mpg on city roads.

Along with distinct trim details and M badging, the interiors of M3 are almost the same as that of the regular 3-series vehicles. The infotainment system of M3 works with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that has well-designed buttons and rotatory knobs for easy adjustments. This model doesn’t even require a paid subscription for the Apple CarPlay system because they have now adopted to Android Auto system. The optional features for BMW M3 include a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, gesture control, and wireless charging pad.

For long drives, you may find BMW M3 more comfortable with well-designed seats and enough legroom. The fuel economy of these models is also very high. The M3 sedan 2021 model is estimated to offer great performance on tough roads of most adventure destinations. Furthermore, you may rate this vehicle category high for enhanced outward visibility, passenger space, and build quality.
