The CT4 has a maximum towing capacity of 1000 lbs. This is the maximum load it can tow. According to this maximum load, the CT4 would easily be able to tow a teardrop trailer. Since it lacks proper cooling it is not recommended as a tow vehicle.
Cadillac CT4 Engine Options
There are three types of engines that are available:
-
2.0L LSY I4: The default engine available for the base model of the CT4. The 2.0L LSY I4 is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine capable of producing 237 hp with 258 lb-ft torque. It runs on Premium gasoline bearing an average fuel economy of 27 mpg. This engine is the least suited for towing and it should be avoided.
-
2.7L L3B I4: This is the default engine on the CT4-V and can be obtained in the CT4 by upgrading to the Premium Luxury option. The 2.7 L3B I4 is an all-new turbocharged engine that is specially designed to offer the best fuel economy as well as the performance at a wider range of operating conditions. This engine offers an average fuel economy of 23 mpg on Premium Gasoline. It has the ability to generate 309 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. This engine can be used for towing, however, should be approached with caution.
-
3.0L LGY V6: This engine is exclusively available on the ultra-high performance CT4-V Blackwing. This engine is a twin turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing 472 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. This engine is best suited for towing as it is able to produce the highest torque out of all the engines.
Is it Recommend to Use CT4 for Towing?
The Cadillac CT4 does not come pre-installed with towing aids but can be installed using a third-party aftermarket kit. It is strictly not advisable to tow with the base model with the LSY as it is not able to generate enough torque. The L3B and the LGY would be able to cope with some occasional light towing; however, frequent heavy towing is likely to cause serious damage to the transmission because it was not designed to deal with towing.
Furthermore, due to the lack of a cooling system (usually present in vehicles designed for towing), the engine and transmission would give out due to overheating when heavy loads are towed. Lastly, the frame of the vehicle is prone to irreversible damage when towing heavy loads.
The Cadillac CT4 is a compact four-door sedan manufactured by General Motors under its brand Cadillac. The CT4 was released in 2019 as a successor to the Cadillac ATS. The CT4 is short for Cadillac Touring 4, which comes in three variants; the base CT4, the high-performance CT4-V, and the top-of-the-line CT4-V Blackwing.
In conclusion, towing up to 1000 lbs with the CT4 is very much possible. However, due to the possible damages, it could cause to the transmission, engine, and frame of the vehicle over time makes it quite difficult to recommend to someone who will participate in frequent towing. For safe towing, it is recommended to take a look at the Crossover/SUV choices that are provided by Cadillac.
