The 5.7L Hemi eTorque mild hybrid V8 is standard on the Jeep Wagoneer. The Hemi is from a series of engines manufactured by Chrysler that derives its name from their hemispherical combustion chambers. Towing with the Wagoneer requires a trailering hitch and harness. This can be installed at a premium when buying the Wagoneer or buying the Series II trim, which comes pre-equipped with a trailer-tow package. The Wagoneer has integrated trailer brakes that allow activation of the trailer’s brakes when the brakes on the vehicle are applied during towing.
The Wagoneer also features a rear-view camera with hitch zoom and line-up assist, making it easier to monitor the trailer’s hitch while simultaneously offering confidence while reversing.
As per Jeep’s recommendation for its other vehicles, towing is not allowed for the first 500 miles of the vehicle’s run as this would prove detrimental to the engine and transmission.
As Jeep’s previous vehicle had the technology to assist in towing, it is very likely that similar features are also present in the Wagoneer, Trailer Sway Control (TSC), for example, prevents trailer swaying when towing. This feature works by detecting irregular trailer motion using sensors mounted in the vehicle and taking action to correct the trailer’s motion. Even though this is an extremely useful function, keep in mind that it will not prevent any trailer from swaying. As a result, depending on the TSC is not recommended.
