The 2019 GMC Canyon diesel engine can tow up to 7700 pounds when it is properly equipped. The V-6 can tow up to 7000 lbs. The gasoline 4-cylinder can tow 3500 pounds.
Some people are put off by the 2.5L 4-cylinder base engine because it makes this truck feel a little under-powered. However, this is only on the SL trim, with the higher trim levels sporting a higher-powered 3.6L V6 engine.
The 3.6L engine is preferred by Canyon enthusiasts because it is able to generate 308 horsepower and 275lb-ft of torque as opposed to a meager 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque generated by the 2.5L.
