Can You Hook up a RV to Sewer or Septic System?

You can connect a RV to sewer with a permanent plumbing adapter and some hose as shown in photos below. Note that some local areas have laws about this and may not be allowed.

Items needed to install:

  • PVC pipe
  • Adapter
  • Sewer hose
  • Fasteners
  • Connectors
  • Clamps
  • Elbow
  • PVC cement
  • Sandpaper
  • Hacksaw
  • Drain less than 30 ft away

You can do yourself or hire a plumber, here is a video of how to do it:

With a direct line to the sewer you will not need to empty the tanks manually so it is a big time saver. You can use a Y connector and pipe both black and grey water.

Possible issues to be aware of:

  • Low flow causes backup
  • Possible code violation of local law
  • Can freeze in winter
  • Can attract pests
  • Not attractive to look at
  • Septic system can not handle large amounts of liquid
  • Leaks
